Mother's Day Tea

Wow, do I love this kid.  Luke's class had a Mother's Day Tea at school today.  They had to write (and then read in front of everyone) a book called, "The Best Mom".  I can't hold a torch to him - the assignment should've been:  'the best kid'.  He would've won.  Hands down :)

You made my day, buddy.  I love you!!

Country Music in the Big City

Emma said to me today: "Mommy, I know we live in a big city and I should really like dance music since we live in that big city but really, I really really like Country Music.  Like Chicken Fried."

Not sure which is funnier -we do NOT live in a big city, or Chicken Fried.  I hate country music.  Hate. It.

Although I must admit that somehow this song makes you want to sing.

At least we are cool!

Rough weekend for the kids.  Emma had her Girl Scout Banquet on Friday.  There were 200 Girl Scouts and their mothers in attendance.  It lasted for almost 5 hours.  5 HOURS!  Oh. My. Headache.  During that 5 hours, each troop had to decorate their table for the judges.  Each troop did a dance routine for the dance contest.  They had door prizes all night long.

Emma's troop didn't win one prize.  Not one.  Not even a door prize.  Don't you think the losers who didn't win the table decorations or the dance competition could've had first dibs on the door prizes?  Nope.  Losers the whole way around.    Poor cute little Daisies who thought their dance routine was the best.  :(  Us moms thought so too, it must've been rigged.  ha ha.

As the banquet was going on, Joe and Luke were at Luke's first travel hockey tournament.  Joe was texting me updates.  Faster than my phone could post the texts it was 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, all the way to 8-0.  Who knew they had a mercy rule and quit the game at an 8 point spread.  Our poor boys didn't know what hit them.

The rest of the weekend was more of the same.  Luke's team lost all their games.  Welcome to the Big Leagues, buddy  - much different than our little in-house league, wow.  I saw license plates from several states and even Ontario!  Lots of RV's, this must be all these people do - travel around and beat the begeebers out of unsuspecting 10 year old hockey players.

Anyway.  Emma said, "Wow, our family sure is a bunch of losers.  But hey - at least we are cool!"

Great attitude, baby!  HA!

"I feel different, like I'm in a different country..."

Luke has moved on.  He has played dek hockey for 3 years.  He has made great friends.  (See post here.)  After he played his last game as a 9 year old (in the 7-9 year old division), he decided not to play dek hockey anymore. He has only played roller hockey for a year, but he has decided he is JUST a roller guy now.  No looking back :)

He's been playing in an in-house league, with kids from our local area who occassionally get mixed up on different teams, so they all get to know each other.

Recently, we decided to let him try out for a traveling roller hockey team.  Not sure what we're getting ourselves into, but....  he made it.  He was thrilled.  Most of the tournaments will be local (within a 1 1/2 hours drive time or so) but we will be going to Buffalo, NY as well.

At practice last night, they got their jerseys.  He wore one at practice last night and wore the other one to school today.  He cannot believe that it has his last name on it!  The joy.  Pure joy on this boy's face.  According to his logic, he is now a real hockey player since he has a hockey jersey with his OWN name on it.  No point in wearing NHL guys on his back anymore.  ha ha.

He said to me, "I think this league is really serious, mom!"

After he put the jersey on this morning, he said, "I feel like...  different.  Like I'm still skating."  (He drug his feet around the house like there were skates on his feet.)  "I feel different...  like I'm in another country."  To which I said, "Huh??!!"  He said, "Like I'm in Germany.  Like Johnny."

My cousin's son, Johnny, was in the NHL for a little bit, now he is in Germany, playing hockey there.

Now Luke is just like Johnny.  He has a jersey with his name on the back of it. Seriously. Too. Cute.

Welcome to the big leagues, my boy!  :)

Smokin' hot

I went shopping at the mall with my mom yesterday.  We didn't have much time since it was in between dropping Emma off and picking her up from a birthday party.  But it had been awhile since I had actually shopped.  Usually, I browse the Target clothes while I am picking up paper towels, soap, laundry detergent, etc.  Occassionally I will treat myself and walk through TJMaxx.

So spending that time with my mom was nice.

Among other things, I ended up getting a pair of pink ankle pants.  I really liked all the colors they are showing this season.  Very fun!  I wore said pants to church this morning (yes, we have a casual church).  When I came out of my room, Emma said, "Oooooo....  mommy, did you get new pants?"  To which I obviously answered:  "Yep."  She said, "I REALLY like them.  You look smokin' hot!"

My eyeballs must've fallen out because when I said, "Where did you hear that from?"  She gasped and stammered, "Um, um....  I think I just made it up right now all by myself."

Well, I guess sometimes new words have to be made up when mommy looks so smokin' hot.  ha ha ha.

This is me.
Totally kidding.
I would NOT let my tattoo hang out like that.
Totally kidding again.
Obviously my hair is blonde, albeit fake at this point in my life.
But truth be told...
I am taller than this and my ankle pants do not bunch like that at my smokin' hot heels.
(or at my butt or my knees...)
So I guess, hopefully....
I look much better than her.
If my daughter does say so herself  :)

Dirty Little Lephrechaun

I'm not big into St. Patrick's Day, but with 2 kids...  well....  once a year, the Leprechaun shows up.

I never knew he would show up until Luke hit kindergarten.  Wouldn't you know, that dirty little Leprechaun showed up in his classroom, left a pot of gold and created a little mayhem.  Since St. Patrick's Day fell on a weekend that year, the teacher told the kids to look out for Lephrechauns over the weekend.

And so we did.

I almost forgot about St. Patty's Day this year until Emma's teacher reminded them to look for them, after they ruined their classroom as well.

Luke's not so sure about all this - nothing happened in his classroom.  "They're FAKE, Emma."  he assured her with emphasis.  "Nu-uh, LUKE!  They are REAL!  You should've seen our classroom."  "Whatever" Mr. Cool answered, "Are they real, mom?"  "I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens on St. Patrick's Day." I answered without a commitment.

Emma covered her bases, just in case:

To which that rude Little Leprechaun answered:

They could not believe he moved the couch!

They could not get out of their rooms when they woke up, too funny.

He left a box of Lucky Charms and green milk in the fridge.

And some chocolate coins on the kitchen table.  At the end of the rainbow, of course!

Not sure what Luke thought of all this, but he had no problem eating the candy, cereal, or green milk - and laughed like crazy at the mess.  After all, mommy would never make that mess, that's for sure!

Oh no, the Big 7-0

My dad had a big day yesterday....  His 70th birthday!  I couldn't let something like this go by without a celebration, so....  we celebrated!

Since I am used to planning kid parties, this one was a bit of a challenge.  My mom entrusted me to handle the details.  I made reservations at a Bowling Alley inside a casino.  (Odd combo, I know!)  Invited all his friends and family.  Made a TON of cupcakes.  And then enjoyed the surprise.  I think we really got him!

He thought he was going to a Mexican Restaurant with his friends.  Inside a Bowling Alley?!

Yes, I made every single cupcake and cupcake topper.  Not many believed me, not even my dad!

My mom and dad and their babies.

Emma playing with Pappy's friend's granddaughters.  I grew up with their parents!

Happy Birthday, Dad.  Gotcha - surprise!  But even better than that, glad I've gotcha forever :)
